Down the Rabbit Hole: An Update From the Dock
If you’ve been following along with Rabbit Hole Sailing, you may have noticed things went quiet after December 31.
That wasn’t intentional, but it was necessary.
On 12/31, Club Nautique, where we were students, members, and boat owners for many years, abruptly closed its doors. Our boat, Rabbit Hole, had been part of that community for more than four years, bringing us and many others time on the water, learning, confidence, and joy.
With that closure, the path we had been on ended immediately.
Over the following 36 days, from December 31 to February 5, we focused on understanding where things stood and what it would take to move forward responsibly.
Instead of rushing to replace what was lost, we paused. We took a hard look at what Rabbit Hole Sailing was meant to be, what our vision was for our boat, Rabbit Hole, and what kind of operators we wanted to be.
That pause became a reset, and then a rebuild.
From the very beginning, our priorities were straightforward.
First, we secured the boat and ensured her safety. Protecting Rabbit Hole came before any discussion of what might come next.
Second, we worked to confirm that there was no exposure to unresolved obligations, liens, or liabilities related to the closure. Having clarity here was essential before taking any further steps.
Third, we moved quickly to begin the insurance process. Being properly insured was a top priority and a prerequisite for doing anything else the right way.
Once those fundamentals were underway, we began outlining a plan for direct charters. This meant stepping back and designing an operation intentionally, rather than trying to recreate what existed before.
Rabbit Hole Sailing LLC is not a continuation of our time at Club Nautique. It is a new chapter, built around small, personal charters, run thoughtfully and respectfully, with care for the boat, the water, and the people aboard.
Since then, the work has been steady and deliberate. The business is officially formed as an LLC. Insurance is in progress. Our operations plan is coming together with safety, clarity, and experience at its center. Much of this work happens quietly, but it forms the backbone of a solid and trustworthy operation.
We are also grateful for the captains and instructors who stepped up to support us during this process. Your willingness to lend your experience and credentials helped move this forward in meaningful ways, and we truly appreciate it.
It has not been rushed.
And it has not been complicated for the sake of complexity.
It has been intentional.
The result is an operation that feels aligned with our values and ready for the next phase.
Now, chartering is just over the horizon.
The remaining steps are largely procedural, and we are focused on completing them carefully and correctly.
We wanted to share this update because Rabbit Hole Sailing has always been about more than simply getting underway. It is about doing things with care, taking responsibility, and building something we are proud to invite others into.
If you have sailed aboard Rabbit Hole before, we look forward to welcoming you back when the time comes. And if you are new here, we look forward to sharing what we have been building.
More soon, and thank you for being part of the journey.
