Charter Eligibility & Crew Requirements

Every bareboat charter aboard SV Rabbit Hole requires a minimum operational crew of three capable sailors.

Two Approved to Charter Sailors

At least two sailors aboard must be individually screened and approved by Rabbit Hole Sailing, LLC to charter SV Rabbit Hole.

US Sailing Bareboat Cruising certification, or equivalent training and experience, is an excellent place to start.

Approval is based on certifications, documented experience, local knowledge, vessel-handling experience, and overall suitability. Depending on the sailor’s qualifications, approval may be granted based on:

• Initial screening and sailing resume
• Documented experience, referrals, and/or observed performance during an instructor-led Skills Development Sail
• Successful completion of a Check-Out Sail aboard SV Rabbit Hole

Not sure whether you qualify? Contact us. We would be happy to discuss your experience and help identify the best pathway to charter approval.

One Qualified Supporting Sailor

The third required sailor does not need to complete Rabbit Hole Sailing’s full screening and approval process.

The supporting sailor must hold at least US Sailing Basic Cruising certification or demonstrate equivalent sailing experience acceptable to Rabbit Hole Sailing, LLC.

Documentation of certification or experience may be required before departure.

Additional Guests

Once the minimum operational crew requirements are satisfied, additional crew members, family members, friends, or guests may join the charter within the vessel’s approved bareboat capacity.

Maximum persons aboard for bareboat charters: 8

Check-Out Sail

A Check-Out Sail gives experienced sailors an opportunity to demonstrate competency aboard SV Rabbit Hole while becoming familiar with the vessel and Rabbit Hole Sailing’s operating procedures.

Rate

$695 per person

Format

• 4–6 hour competency evaluation aboard SV Rabbit Hole with an approved instructor or evaluator
• One or two sailors may attempt qualification during the session
• Vessel orientation and competency discussion
• Evaluation of docking, close-quarters maneuvering, sail handling, reefing, seamanship, navigation, safety procedures, and vessel systems
• Post-sail evaluation and qualification discussion

A Check-Out Sail is a competency evaluation. Completion does not guarantee charter approval.

All charter approvals remain at the discretion of Rabbit Hole Sailing, LLC and may include operating restrictions, additional training or experience requirements, or other conditions appropriate to the sailor, vessel, and intended charter.

Instructor-Led Skill Development

Instructor-led charters may be available for sailors preparing for a Check-Out Sail or seeking additional experience aboard SV Rabbit Hole.

Skill-development sessions may focus on areas such as:

• Vessel orientation and systems
• Docking and close-quarters maneuvering
• Sail handling and reefing
• Navigation and passage planning
• Crew coordination and seamanship
• Preparation for extended-boundary sailing

Standard charter rates plus instructional fees apply. Experience and certification requirements vary based on the intended training area and operating boundaries.

Instructor-led charters are intended for skill refinement and seamanship development. They are not substitutes for formal certification courses.

US Sailing certification courses are offered separately through Pacific Wayfinder Sailing Academy.
