Some sailing days call for something crisp and refreshing.
Others call for something warm.
Something a little darker. A little richer. A little more mysterious.
For fall, The Captain’s Cup needed a different personality.
And so, The Jabberwocky was born.
Inspired by cooler evenings, golden light on the Bay, and that moment after the sails come down when everyone is still talking about the day, The Jabberwocky is warm, spiced, and just a little untamed.
Apple cider brings the season.
Bourbon gives it depth. Ginger adds a little bite. Fresh lemon keeps it bright.
And a touch of blackberry or blackcurrant brings a darker, jewel-toned edge that feels exactly right for a drink named after one of Wonderland’s more mysterious creatures.
In other words, it seemed appropriately Jabberwocky.
The Jabberwocky
For One Mug
• 5 oz apple cider
• 1½ oz bourbon
• ½ oz ginger liqueur or ginger syrup
• ¼ oz fresh lemon juice
• ¼ oz blackberry or blackcurrant syrup or liqueur
• 1 cinnamon stick
• 1 star anise or 2 whole cloves
• Thin apple slice for garnish
To Make It
Warm the apple cider with the cinnamon and star anise or cloves until fragrant and steaming, but not boiling.
Remove from the heat and stir in the bourbon, ginger, lemon, and blackberry or blackcurrant.
Pour into a mug and garnish with the cinnamon stick and a thin slice of apple.
Serve warm.

The Jabberwocky is meant for the end of the adventure, once the boat is secured and the sailing day is complete.
Because some adventures are best enjoyed underway.
Others are best enjoyed while telling the story afterward.
And that may be one of our favorite parts of sailing.
The quiet after the day. The stories that get better with retelling. The plans for where to go next. The familiar question that seems to come up eventually:
So… where are we sailing next?
Wherever it is, we hope it comes with a good story.
